Biopetrolia receives additional patents for production of fatty acids in yeast

Biopetrolia receives additional patents for production of fatty acids in yeast
November 12, 2019

Biopetrolia has received a notice of allowance from the USPTO for two patent applications. One of these applications details genetic manipulations that improve production of very long chain fatty acids and derivatives in yeast. These products can be used as nutraceuticals, cosmetics or pharmaceuticals. The second application covers enzymatic modifications that improve malonyl-CoA production in yeast. Malonyl-CoA is an important precursor for fatty acids, and the modifications covered in this patent are key for increasing production of a variety of fatty acid-derived products.
